Did you know if you are an African American woman who is PREGNANT or thinking about starting a family, your chances may higher for unhealthy birth outcomes? Statistically, African American women have higher incidents of giving birth to low birth weight babies, going into pre-mature labor and having children die before age of one. But, the team at South Phoenix Healthy Start can help you bring a healthy baby into the world.
South Phoenix Healthy Start is a federally funded program whose mission is to reduce infant mortality and incidents of low birth weight; improving birth outcomes in our African American communities. Our vision is that more babies will be born healthy as a result of early and easy access to high quality, comprehensive prenatal care and the existence of a network of support for pregnant women. South Phoenix Healthy Start is a home visitation and community based program assessing the needs of pregnant women, women between subsequent pregnancies, women and girls prior to pregnancies and infants in the community. We respond with compassion, care and thoughtfulness working with pregnant mothers and their families with children two years old and younger. ALL OF OUR SERVICES ARE FREE and TRANSPORTATION IS PROVIDED. Services include prenatal, Doula services, Interconceptional, and infant case management; including home visits, health education classes, health development, social service screenings, assessments and referrals to other important family support organizations. We offer our participants specialty classes such as The Importance of Breastfeeding, Making your own Baby Food, Cooking Classes, Healthy Relationships, Infant Massage and A Healthy You.
